Week in Gratitude: 08.21

Another good week in the books

Sometimes, life gets hectic and we speed right past all the really cool things that happen. Although I journal daily at least three things I am grateful for during the week, I previously kept them private. That changed on August 14th.

A few things from my Daily Gratitude from the past week:

  1. Bike shops: I try to support local, independent businesses as much as possible, and one of the coolest places I’ve ever been is Sadie’s Bikes. I went in to try bikes — I had not been on a bike in 30 years — and it was so much fun. And the philosophy and mission at Sadie’s is something I support and believe in. So I ended up with a Retrospect Kinney Mixte City Bike in Crystal Blue, and added a water bottle holder and a burger bell…because, burger bells are awesome.

2. Cat grass: Our cat, Incredible Hulk Meep Wacko, Jr., tends to chew on plants; picked up some cat grass seeds and keep a fresh batch of grass growing for him. He seems happier, and he stays away from the other houseplants. A win-win scenario.

3. Curiosity: I was curious and looked to see if I could do modifications to a Squier Affinity Stratocaster. It is the lower end model produced by Fender, but still a really good guitar. This week I finished the mods. The goal was to keep it under $250 and I finished the entire project with $208-ish dollars (still doing the final budget to actuals). A healthy dose of curiosity at any age does wonders for the soul and mind. I named this guitar Malcolm X.

A Squier Affinity Stratocaster resting on sofa. Guitar is black with maple neck. Pickguard is a tortoise shell, with red copper pickup covers and black knobs. Black hardware, tuning machines and string tree at the neck.
